Cassandra Berman will discuss her experience completing the Wiki Scholars course while writing her dissertation, living abroad, and working towards a career in libraries and archives. While the thematic focus on women and suffrage was a comfortable fit with her own research, the inherently public nature of Wikipedia required her to reassess the life and significance of one of the key figures of her dissertation. Berman will also address the benefit of connecting remotely with a community of scholars and editors while living far from her own academic institution, and the ways in which the class has informed her interest in professional archival work and public outreach.
