I will present on moving from outside of academia into a tenure-track position. In my first year out of school, I worked as a consultant for a university and a textbook publisher and taught both remedial college and dual enrollment high school students. In my second year, I worked full-time as the K-12 Curriculum Coordinator at The National WWII Museum before securing my current position in History of Education in the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s School of Education. These experiences taught me to not give up on securing a tenure-track position (despite wanting to), to find incremental ways to move closer to that goal, and to embrace experiences outside of academia as strengths rather than liabilities.
