Adjunct/ETI/VAP/TT: The “New” Traditional Path?

My presentation will focus on moving from an adjunct position to an “emergency temporary hire” to an Instructor/VAP to tenure-track at different institutions. I will discuss the pressures and problems trying to succeed in a temporary position (subject to budget cuts and last minute renewals) while on the job market, and the varying research, teaching, and service expectations that change with a transition at each level. My particular focus will be on the perspective that this is the new “traditional” path that is actually an older, and much more common experience for academics post-dissertation.
