The Influence of the Gwendolyn Midlo Hall’s Louisiana Slave Database on Africanist Scholarship

This paper will examine the ways in which Africanist scholars have used the Louisiana Slave Database to draw conclusions about patterns of slavery within Africa. Because the database contains information about ethnicity, skills and gender, it has proven to be an invaluable tool for answering questions that have long been debated and for forging new questions.
