Dorothee Brantz’ presentation will focus on the problematic of doing transatlantic research. Drawing on her own experiences with transnational projects, she will examine the conceptual and methodological challenges one encounters when trying to write from a perspective that moves beyond the traditional boundaries of the nation state. How can one frame such a history and what can be gained from such transatlantic approaches but also what might get lost? In answering these questions, she will also address the difference between transnational and comparative history.
