Session Abstract
Memorializing Violence in Texas
This panel will focus on how communities memorialize and acknowledge violent episodes in Texas. A rediscovered convict lease cemetery, the graves of soldiers executed without due process, and murals used as folk healing for Mexican and Mexican American communities, this panel will discuss the ways to not just remember victims of violence, but bring them justice, recognition, respect. Memorializing past injustices helps heal communities and right the wrongs of the past.
