Session Abstract
Students often have no idea “where to start” when embarking on a research project. Libraries and archives provide a special opportunity for student engagement with research – including how to demystify this often overwhelming process, from original idea to final product. The proliferation of digital resources available for student research opens up countless avenues for research. At the same time, in the wide sea of digital education resources, students must now acquire new skills for evaluating the relevance and quality of these digital resources. This roundtable discussion will cover the types of reputable resources students can access online and how to help them be more effective researchers.The panelists will provide practical tips to share with students on how to get the most out of online research, how to ask targeted questions of research librarians, and the online resources available at their institutions. As a result, students will learn to exercise the skills of research, including primary source discernment and curation, engagement, and analysis; critical thinking; and research project design. The goal is to foster the researcher/librarian relationship and help your students become more confident, effective, and efficient researchers and historians.
Each panelist will provide access to a list of research tips to share with students via a QR code.
