Session Abstract

What does it mean to “read” a history essay, monograph, or textbook? What do students see when they turn a page or scroll down a screen? How can we more effectively promote critical reading skills and communicate excitement about history and its value to our students? Building on David Pace’s seminal 2004 essay, “Decoding the Reading of History,” this panel brings together educators to discuss emerging challenges and developing pedagogies to address reading skills in the history classroom.
