The current pandemic and the recent shift to remote learning has revealed new disparities among students, exacerbated equity gaps, and presented new barriers to student success. Now more than ever, students need to form strong connections, whether those are connections with their peers, connections to the course material, or connections with their faculty members. Amy Powers will explain how she has redesigned her online courses to include High-Impact Practice assignments as a way to encourage collaboration, deepen learning, and improve student engagement. Specifically, she will share a team-based project from her American History to 1865 course that explores global connections and diversity in the early United States.
