Teaching the Fashioned Body in Global History: the State of the Field

In this presentation, I use my experience of teaching fashion history courses and my research in Chinese fashion history as a lens to explore some of the factors explaining the state of the field. Next, I offer some themes and approaches that have been productive and discuss ways of presenting fashion history to students that don't privilege or depend upon definitions and theories rooted in the historical experience of Western Europe. Finally, I posit some future directions for developing course material to make global fashion history more accessible to students.
