In my presentation, I will focus on the different strategies for teaching fashion studies in a history course. I will offer thoughts on how scholars should think about teaching history through material and visual objects in general and through fashion specifically. Based on my experience teaching a humanities course, specifically, a fashion history class in a STEM-oriented University, this presentation will explore the possibilities and limitations of teaching fashion history. Also, I reflect upon how to engage students in reading, deciphering, and analyzing visual and material objects and to think of them as historical sources. Finally, the presentation will discuss various teaching assignments and approaches that provide students with historical analytical skills and why studying fashion can be a great way to engage with history.
