How do journals decide which books to review, and who will review them, particularly given ever-increasing pressures on authors to publish? (the number of titles received for review by many journals has in fact increased markedly in recent years). What are the biggest intellectual and institutional challenges currently facing journals? How has the move to electronic publication changed the environment for book reviewing in traditional academic journals? Does it create new possibilities for discussion and debate, including across national borders? Should academic journals continue to publish on paper, or move entirely online? How are things likely to change in the coming years?
