Session Abstract

Recent research on borderlands, migration, and citizenship in U.S. history has begun to change how the U.S. History survey is taught on the college and high school levels. In newly announced revisions to the Advanced Placement United States History course, “peopling,” the study of migration and demographic change, is one of seven major themes that students will investigate throughout U.S. history. This session has presentations on how to approach this topic in the college and high school settings, as well as a discussion of how peopling will be assessed in new ways on the revised AP U.S. History Exam.
