The Guantánamo Public Memory Project (GPMP) is an international collaboration that interprets the century-long history of the US naval station at Guantánamo, Bay, Cuba, and fosters dialogue on the future of this place and the policies it shapes. The University of Minnesota is one of several universities collaborating on GPMP. Murphy will discuss an innovative fall 2012 seminar, in which undergraduate students work with faculty and community partners on public history projects that explore struggles for justice at Guantánamo, including those related to the detention of refugees and asylum seekers in the 1990s.
