My contribution will analyze the influence of historical thinking skills in the Texas social studies readiness standards, drawing in particular upon those defined in the recently revised core documents of the National Council for History Education. I will also compare the separate TEKS and TCCR standards of Texas with the single set of social studies standards produced in 2009 by Colorado on the one hand, and with the Common Core State Standards for Literacy in History/Social Studies on the other.
