This paper will explore the spatial politics of the Chicano Movement in the barrio neighborhood of San Diego during the 1960s and 1970s.  though Chicano Park is well known to Chicano historians, its reflection of a certain model of spatial activism remains largely unexplored.  As a direct intervention upon the urban built environment, Chicano Park demonstrates one community's response to the modernist reinvention of the American city during the post World War II decades.
