“Teaching California History as World History.” Teaching the California History survey affords a unique opportunity to explore world history through the lens of state, regional, and local history. From Spanish settlement to modern day labor relations at the Port of Los Angeles, the history of the state reveals the complex web of global interactions that inform daily life in the far West. At its best, the California History survey serves as an “entry point” into geographically-broad historical inquiry rather than as a provincial celebration of regional memory and culture.
