“Teaching World History through Music.” Music can be a valuable tool in the classroom. Whether one is teaching regional, national, or world history, there are many ways of approaching music as a “window” into the history and culture of peoples and nations, such as in terms of migration. This presentation discusses significant musical forms and instruments from Africa , Europe , and the Mexican borderlands that reflect global interactions. Since students often express a strong interest in music, its use in the classroom provides an immediate link that instructors can readily relate to other topics of analysis.
