Using the iconic photographs, slogans, and memorials created during the early years of the Cuban Revolution, this paper explores the role of memory and myth in creating the ideology of the Cuban Revolution. It argues that through an analysis of the visual symbols of the revolution, Cuban civil society and the role between State and Revolution are also illuminated.
