Tour Leaders: Jeremy Collins and historians from the museum’s Jenny Craig Institute for the Study of War and Democracy The National WWII Museum welcomes AHA conference attendees to a highlights tour of our vast seven-acre campus. The museum tells the story of the American experience in the war that changed the world—why it was fought, how it was won, and what it means today—so that all generations will understand the price of freedom and be inspired by what they learn. This tour offers participants insight into not just what the museum covers, but how it is conveyed to visitors. The tour will include an overview of the history of the museum and New Orleans’ connection to the war effort. The museum tells its story through four main galleries. “The Arsenal of Democracy” explores the interwar years, the road to war, America’s entry into the conflict, and the home front. “The Road to Berlin” follows the European Theater of Operations from D-Day to VE-Day. “The Road to Tokyo” takes visitors through the Pacific Theater of Operations on land, in the air, on the sea, and below the sea. The “Liberation Pavilion” discusses the immediate postwar period, including the Holocaust and War Crimes trials and the US role in the postwar world.
