As interest in Korean popular culture continues to grow among students in the US, educators have new opportunities to engage students with the history of Korea and its global connections. Integrating Korean examples, sources, and topics can help students explore major historical developments while also challenging familiar narratives about the United States, Asia, and the wider world. This session will equip educators at all levels with an overview of major themes and topics in Korean history, along with concrete resources for incorporating Korea into US and world history courses.

The AHA’s State of the Field for Busy Teachers series provides a forum for history teachers at all levels to interact with leading historians and discuss content, sources, and trends in scholarly interpretation on a theme related to topics commonly addressed in the history classroom.

Tobie S. Meyer-Fong will outline current debates, new lines of inquiry, and useful sources. A panel of educators will moderate a discussion about how to incorporate insights from new research into the classroom. We anticipate a lively exchange in which all participants can walk away with new insights and resources.
