The participants will discuss Katrina and the disaster(s) with which its name has become associated. An analysis of firsthand accounts of the volunteers who attempted to rebuild the city will be combined with other, more broadly chronological or theoretical considerations, with the goal of leading audience members to engage more deeply with the meanings assigned to Katrina and the nature of disaster more broadly. The expertise of the roundtable’s moderator and panelists, grounded in an array of specializations, provides a foundation from which to build debate and discussion.
