Session Abstract

Many historians are interested in reaching wider audiences through trade publishing but are unsure how the process actually works. This workshop brings together an author, agent, editor and coach to offer a clear, practical guide to shaping a historical project for the trade: from identifying a compelling core idea and writing for a broader readership to understanding what agents and editors look for.

Panelists will share concrete strategies, common pitfalls and actionable advice drawn from their experience across writing, acquiring and representing trade books. The session will include a moderated discussion followed by small-group conversations, giving participants the opportunity to workshop their ideas and receive targeted feedback.
