Session Abstract

Teaching a US history course with a focus on gender/queer topics is a challenge in a conservative state. Government hostility to teaching these topics presents challenges to faculty who want to engage with this material. Our panelists come from a range of institutions in Texas, and will discuss how they navigate these challenges, support or lack of support from their administration, student reactions, and more. Panelists will share their approaches to teaching and provide practical tips for what works in the classroom.
