Session Abstract

Tour leaders: Elena Gonzales and Jessica Pushor, Chicago History Museum

AHA conferencegoers are invited to a double tour of the Chicago History Museum, the city’s oldest cultural institution, led by two staff members, curator of civic engagement and social justice Elena Gonzales and costume collection manager Jessica Pushor. Attendees will experience a guided tour of the museum’s latest exhibition, Aquí en Chicago with the exhibit’s curator. Aquí traces the lives of Latino/a/e communities that have maintained a persistent cultural presence and flourished in Chicago since the city’s founding. The group will also have the rare opportunity to venture behind the scenes with Jessica Pushor for a guided tour of the museum’s renowned costume collection, which spans from the 18th century to the present, containing everything from European haute couture to garments connected to key moments in American history.

Please note: The group will travel to the museum by bus. The museum’s public space is fully accessible but the collection's storage space is not, due to tight walkways and necessary storage fixtures.

Limit: 24 people. $50 members, $60 nonmembers.
