“Port-Cities of the Maritime Trade Routes in Southeast Asia, Material Exchanges and Consumption” will examine pre-modern port-cities in Southeast Asia, and the economic exchanges they engaged in with the wider Maritime Asian world. Aspects of material culture to be explored include ceramics, textiles, numismatics and natural products. The paper will look at several of these port-cities located in the Gulf of Siam and Melaka Straits region, and will elucidate patterns of trade and consumption pertaining to the thirteenth through early fifteenth centuries.
