Session Abstract

In honor of James Grossman’s retirement as executive director of the AHA on June 30, 2025, his friends and colleagues reflect on his decades-long work devoted to history and supporting historians. Panelists will discuss Grossman’s career in history, from his days as a graduate student at UC Berkeley and professorships in academia to his leadership at the Newberry Library and the 15 extraordinary years at the helm of the world’s largest historical association. Join us to celebrate Grossman’s legacy as a leader in the defense and promotion of the historical discipline.
