Session Abstract
After the racial reckoning of 2020, it seemed to many that higher education found a renewed interest in diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives. But the exclusion of certain populations from graduate study--Black, Latinx, and Native American students, women, LGBTQ+ students, as well as first generation students--is not new. Underrepresentation of certain groups has long stymied administrators and faculty, adversely affected the student experience, and diminished the research and teaching missions of universities.
What, if anything, have we learned since 2020? What are the stakes for graduate education as we continue to address these inequities and what are some of the strategies for inclusion that we can turn to? In this roundtable discussion, panelists will discuss the view from their varying positions and start to map actions and concepts to guide graduate education toward a more inclusive future. The panelist conversation will be followed by a discussion period with the audience.
