Genealogy serves as the foundation to understanding how people connect to history at the micro and macro levels. Morgan, Oprah, and Me: Our Family from Slavery to Freedom chronicles the ancestry of Morgan Freeman, Oprah Winfrey, and Evan Ashford and examines the evolution of the black family in the Jim Crow South, while showcasing how these families formed social, political, and economic connections to provide in-depth insight as to how African Americans lived during the broader Jim Crow era. By understanding how black families operated at the micro level, one gains a better understanding at how African Americans impacted white politics at the macro-level.
