Kim Friele: Transnational Pathbreaker for LGBT Rights
Karen-Christine (Kim) Friele (1935-2021) was a Norwegian gay rights activist who led Forbundet av 1948 and became an important figure in the International Gay Association. Friele played critical roles in the campaigns to decriminalize consensual same-sex relations and to grant legal recognition to same-sex unions in Norway. Her domestic and global activism provides a window in how and why Northern European nations became and remain pathbreakers in the movement for global LGBT equality.
