Session Abstract
Please join this panel for a discussion about alternative academic careers (Alt-Ac) with a panel of professionals across university systems who have pursued career paths alternative to the professoriate. While attempts are underway to connect recent PhDs or early career scholars to career paths beyond academia, little attention has been paid to opportunities within and across universities and the field of academic affairs broadly defined has not received the same recognition. This panel hopes to highlight both the intentional and unintentional venture into careers within academia beyond the professoriate. We will highlight the career trajectory of each presenter in the academy, the particular skills they find necessary to excel in these roles, and suggestions for internationally weighing these options and not landing on them as plan Bs.
