Session Abstract

Affect impacts historical moments in a variety of ways, from animating actors to shaping the mood of the moment and nostalgia about the past. This panel delves into the ways in which Death and its attendant emotion of grief and practices of mourning and burial can be drawn into historical analysis to more fully depict our historical experiences. Through examinations of post-antebellum US, colonial India, twentieth century Ugandan military the panelists raise important historical questions and discuss social science research methods.
