Session Abstract

This roundtable is the annual celebration and exploration of the most recent winner of the John F. Richards Prize in South Asian history. The work under discussion is the 2018 winner, Faiz Ahmed's Afghanistan Rising: Islamic Law and Statecraft between the Ottoman and British Empires (Harvard, 2018). Chaired by Neilesh Bose, the expertise of panelists range from late Ottoman and modern Middle Eastern history, South Asian Islamic legal history, and Indian Ocean history and include Michael Christopher Low, Julia Stephens, and Elizabeth Lhost.
