Participants in this guided tour of the Illinois Holocaust Museum and Education Center will explore three exhibitions that provide different narrative approaches. In the Karkomi Holocaust Exhibition, the history of the Holocaust is told through the belongings, photographs, historical records, and stories of local survivors and witnesses. Stories of Survival: Object. Image. Memory uses personal artifacts brought to America to tell the stories of survivors of the Holocaust and genocides in Armenia, Bosnia, Cambodia, Iraq, Rwanda, South Sudan, and Syria. The Take A Stand Center includes the groundbreaking Abe & Ida Cooper Survivor Stories Experience, featuring interactive holographic technology. Other highlights of the permanent exhibition include the Goodman Upstander Gallery, highlighting 40 change-makers working toward civil, social, economic, health and environmental rights; the Take A Stand Lab, which explores how to raise awareness, give, advocate, and participate; and the Act of Art Gallery, which features citizen artistry as a response to human rights issues.
