Session Abstract

In this panel, historians will discuss their recent internship experiences and address the major questions and concerns students and departments may have when considering internships for history PhDs, such as: What is the value of doing an internship while in graduate school? How can an internship help further your professional development and help you secure a job on or off the tenure track after graduation? What should you know before undertaking an internship, and how can the experience best be incorporated into the rhythm of your doctoral program? A graduate career adviser will also discuss some of the lessons she has learned while helping graduate students secure internships, including best practices on finding organizations and how to determine what types of internships are a good "fit" for history PhDs.
