A screening of the first episode of the 2016 remake will be followed by a panel discussion about the significance of the new Roots and how much has changed since the 1977 original.
The discussion will be chaired by Edda L. Fields-Black, Carnegie Mellon University. Participants include author Elizabeth Shown Mills and historian Lois Horton.
