The Environmental History of the Early Modern Middle East: Needs and Opportunities

Through a discussion of recent work on the environmental history of the Ottoman Empire, I plan to offer a few remarks on what a consideration of the early modern Middle East can do for environmental history. I will most likely focus on histories of disease, climate, and natural resource management.
