Statistical Portrait of French Soldiers Executed during WW1. Based on the 'Shot in the First World War' database of the French Ministry of Defense, this study examines the characteristics of the French soldiers sentenced to death and executed during the Great War. We wonder whether the profile of these soldiers has changed over the war years. We deliberately consider the category of 'shot soldiers' as a whole, rejecting the opposition a priori between 'shot as an example' on one side and 'mutineers' on the other, with the year 1917 as hyphenation. Our work aims to re-examine the thesis of politicized protest against war using a statistical and econometric approach.
