The Legacy of Heart Mountain is a story of the 10,000 Japanese Americans interned during World War II at the Heart Mountain Camp near Cody, Wyoming and the creation of a museum by descendants of the internees. Featuring photography from the Hirahara Collection—produced in a secret darkroom under barracks at the camp—the film explores daily struggles of camp life and much wider issues in American society.
The documentary has won Four Emmy Awards, two Radio Television Digital News Association's Edward R. Murrow Awards, a national RTDNA "Unity Award" for diversity programming, and a National Television Award from the Asian American Journalists Association.
