Session Abstract
This roundtable includes four scholars who have written at length on Reconstruction and the post-war, post-emancipation period in U.S. history. Each has approached the question in different ways that shed light upon the openings available in the field in the quarter-century since the publication of Eric Foner’s groundbreaking Reconstruction: America’s Unfinished Revolution, and each will discuss the present status of the field and future directions for research. Given the burst of recent activity in the field and the ongoing public discussion of Reconstruction during the 150th anniversary of the end of the war, this panel should draw significant interest from both specialists and non-specialists.
