Session Abstract

This roundtable will focus on the work of the LGBTQ Taskforce (LGBTQ TF), specifically centered on the LGBTQ TF’s 2011 survey of the AHA membership on the status of LGBTQ historians and history in the profession and the final report issued by the Taskforce to the Professional Division in April 2015 explaining its work, findings, and recommendations.  As such this session would seek to both convey material to the audience and solicit feedback and discussion concerning continuing challenges, strategies for change, and next steps for LGBTQ historians and history in relation to the AHA, our discipline, and the profession.

This Roundtable will focus on four issues emerging from the survey and the report:

1)      AHA policies/practices – Mary Louise Roberts (for the Professional Division)

2)      Employment and the job market – LaShonda Mims (Towson University)

3)      Teaching – Nicolas Syrett (for the CLGBTH)

Discrimination – Leisa D. Meyer (for the LGBTQ Taskforce)
