Session Abstract
This session will address initiatives dedicated to improving teaching, learning, and assessment in the discipline of history. While a number of tools exist to measure students’ generic skills, we lack subject-specific tools that truly reflect faculty goals for student learning. To respond to this need, this panel will focus on efforts to develop tools that can measure subject-specific skills and competencies. The panel will introduce participants to the Social Science Research Council’s (SSRC) Measuring College Learning (MCL) Project, as well as complementary national initiatives such as Lumina Tuning and Stanford's Beyond the Bubble.
