Kimberly Hill will describe two online activities that help college students analyze migration and trade in the Atlantic World. Her presentation will start with major reasons for emphasizing these topics and seventeenth century Atlantic History at a community college. Then images will guide us through the design of these activities for e-learning and hybrid classes. We will focus first on the project that traces individuals' movements within the slave trade or indentured servitude. Then we will see how students can translate those details into a map project representing trans-Atlantic trade networks. These activities may spark discussion about the use of biography and conceptual mapping in History survey courses.
