Discovering the Ancient South: Methodological Considerations
Friday, January 2, 2015: 3:30 PM
Madison Suite (New York Hilton)
This presentation examines the necessity of combining archaeological and documentary evidence in order to discover the ancient past of the American South. However, these methods are oftentimes incommensurate and pose particular problems as scholars attempt to bridge the conceptual and methodological divide between so-called "prehistory" and "history." This presentation identifies and discusses some of these problems.
