Session Abstract

Recently, a number of geographers and historians have examined the role of maps in constructing spaces for empires and nations in early modern and modern times. In this panel, each presenter will examine a specific map, or set of maps, and describe how the design, distribution, and uses of the maps intersected with the commercial, political and cultural concerns of its society. We will include maps of many regions of the world, including Asia, Europe, and North America.
