Rethinking European History: Continuity and Change

This paper discusses the redesign process for the European History Advanced Placement curriculum, focusing on the pedagogical goals driving the process as well as the validation process used to ensure that the new curriculum aligns with the expectations of college and university faculty. Giving a brief overview of the new requirements of the revised curriculum, the paper also focuses on one particular historical thinking skill – continuity and change over time – explaining how it integrates with other aspects of the curriculum including content knowledge and thematic organizing structures.
