Teaching and Assessing Periodization in the U.S. History Survey

This session will discuss the US AP History curriculum redesign and the essential changes to the AP US History course in content, themes, skills and thematic learning objectives. The presenter will focus on teaching and assessing the skill of periodization in the new course, presenting sample lessons that examine ideas such as turning points and starting and ending points for narratives. The presenter will also discuss assessment of this skill, focusing on the development and approval of new test items, including both stimulus-based multiple-choice questions and short answer questions.
