When the Coordinating Council for Women in the Historical Profession was created it dealt with two aspects of women historians: status of women in the historical profession and the advancement of women’s history. At the beginning of the 21st century we have no doubt that women’s history has made a tremendous advance within the profession and is considered a legitimate field of history. But what is the status of women historians? And what is the status is the status of women of color who are historians? Are history departments hiring enough women historians? Are there enough women historians in the pipeline to be associate and full professors as the senior women historians are retire? These are some of the questions Nupur Chaudhuri will raise and discuss.
