Prof. Shapiro will argue that historians writing about countries in which opinion polling results have proliferated and become a noticeable part of public discourse beginning in the last decades of the 20th century(especially in the United States), cannot ignore this indicator of public opinion and its role in cultural, social, economic, and political life.
