To a Different Beat: Emancipados, Maroons, and Urban Slaves

The paper is based on the experiences of three individual slaves who worked beyond the confines of the sugar plantation: an emancipado, a maroon, and an urban slave. The paper discusses how their status vis-a-vis slavery and the context in which they lived impacted their lives.
